What’s going on guys? Remember the BMW GS beating Ducati bike we reported on a few weeks back, with no name? Well, Ducati has finally officially confirmed that its new GS-rival will be called, wait for it… the Multistrada. Um, no shit Ducati. WTF?

In a press release announcing that the 1198cc bike will appear at the Milan Show in 10 days, the company referred to the bike throughout as the Multistrada 1200.

Although we have been calling the new bike the Multistrada for the last three months, as have all the local Ducati forums, several websites have persisted in calling it the Strada Aperta.

The picture you see above is the first official one of the bike. Usually we’d get very excited about this, but there have been so many spy shots of the entire bike that it’s easier to maintain our composure.

In the statement, Ducati also confirm that the engine will be derived from the World Championship-winning 1198 Testastretta engine, but detuned for road riding.

There is also a new website devoted to the new bike: www.multistrada.ducati.com. Stay tuned guys.
