“Black-clad Riot Police Officers on Motorbikes”written by -- June 22nd, 2009Filed under: News & Opinions | Comments (0) |

That’s the line I pulled out of an article I was reading as I was following the latest news coming out of Iran. I’ve mentioned the topic to a few of my friends and am shocked at how few of them know what kind of shit is going down in Tehran.
So here’s a quick update: the shit hit the fan after what appears to have been a rigged election. The government has removed all foreign press, shut down all media outlets and a battle of political will is being hashed out in blood on the streets of Iran, pitting citizens protesting the election results against an authoritarian police state. The face of protest is marked by the color green. Women, second class citizens in Iran, defying the conventions of society, so are being brutalized in public. It’s the kind of rare chaos that promotes a revolution.
Looking at the photo of the motorcycle goon squads clubbing down people in the street, I can only be sure of one fact at this time; these guys have been waiting their entire life for the appropriate time to suit up and unleash the kind of blind and violent force usually reserved for post-apocalyptic movies like Mad Max. I keep thinking about the stolen US presidential election of 2004 and how complacent the Democratic party had been after it’s defeat. I have always had respect for those willing to fight for what they believe in and hold a contempt for the gutless cowardice I seem to come across continuously in America, especially with the toothless special-interest protests of San Francisco. I just wish I believed in something hard enough to be willing to be beaten for it.
On another note, check out those Huskies!
