Laguna Epiloguewritten by -- July 8th, 2009Filed under: IPM Events | Comments (2) |
Looking back at the MotoGP, the lack of coverage has been disconcerting. I got back on Sunday night, to do some research online, and could not find any race results on most main stream media outlets, including CNN, Sport Illustrated and the New York Times. It seems that the cloud of media hype hovering over the death of certain a pop star (Hey, he made Thriller. -Ed) has taken up any spare room for some basic statical data, and it’s a damn shame.

But, I suppose that’s the problem with American media in the first place. If a Spaniard wins a world championship grand prix on U.S. soil, does anyone care? Apparently not. Nicky wins, and all hell breaks loose. The information coming out of DORNA, (MotoGP media relations) comes at the price of a paid subscription. In fact, when attempting to gain press access to the event, I was informed that online media outlets were required to pay $500, while main stream sources were floated the cost.
Well, at least there is a rabid fan base to support the sport, the turn out was speculated at around 45,000. There is something about fervent support that makes me happy to stand by the cause. I say let the media eat it’s own head, we’ll keep on providing content to the best of our abilities. It’s difficult enough to keep track of all the details when reporting on super sports bike racing, I’m hoping with more experience on my part and a press pass, I can do better next year.

they seemed to do alright on TV coverage. I caught the race on FOX which and it was gorgeous in HD. I was surprised to see it on FOx I expected it to be on a cable channel hidden away somewhere
