Today, I got Ohlins to send me a Scotts steering damper for my Gixxer1000 K7. Scotts is the best steering damper that you can find nowadays. Just check out the forums!

It is a rotary style damper that offers the most adjustability. It’s easy to tell why this is regarded as the cream of the crop. It is top mounted, so it will most likely survive numerous crashes. There are high and low speed adjustments, damping motion range adjustment, and all of the adjustments are infinite. Plus, you can adjust the sucker on the fly!

This particluar unit performs flawlessly. The best description I can give to say how well a damper works is simply that it gave me no hint that it was even there. And, there were no shakes or “shimmies” in the front whatsoever.

The Gsxr1000 K7 actually came with a stock adaptive damper but it wasn’t really good enough for me. Don’t get me wrong though, a lot of guys who I know race so hard with a stock damper on it, but for me, I like my steering to be real stiff.

There is a common misconception that the stock damper on the Gsxr is adaptive by speed like Honda’s electronic unit. No! It’s not. It’s actually adaptive by throttle. If you don’t believe me, just jump on and hump your Gsxr with the stock adaptive damper, (Gsxr600 ’06 + up, Gsxr1000 ’07 + up) turn on your key but don’t start it. Full throttle it and turn your steering around and let it go. You can really feel the damper working.

So I have been worried about crashing when I come into a corner at a high speed and have to kill the throttle. A tank slap could occur so easily. The Scotts damper saves me from this problem. Right now I can adjust it on the fly just by twisting the knob.

Aight you guys, Peace.

If you like this post then please consider subscribing to our full feed RSS or receive new posts by Email.

Zero Gravity vs. Hotbodies Racing Windscreen

2007 Suzuki Gsxr1000

Staff Bikes

gooy

ipm

Zero Gravity vs. Hotbodies Racing Windscreen

zx6r

What’s up people? I know it’s been a while since I updated you on the king of Japanese bikes. So, today I installed a new windscreen courtesy of the great folks at Zero Gravity.

As you guys all know, I previously had the Hotbodies Racing windscreen on the Gixxer, and was very unhappy with it. Check out the story here. Heck, it’s the bottom post under the Gsxr1000 section. You can find it.

So, definitely, I am very happy with the ease of installation, and fit of the product. Keep up the good work guys! After I put all my mismatched fairings onto my bike, I started to dress it up a little bit. Just like what everyone else does, this is an easy mod that won’t really hurt your wallet. You guessed it baby, a double bubble windscreen!

It gives your bike a unique look easily. So, once again, thanks to the guys at Lex Racing for this Hotbodies Racing windscreen. It bolts on easily and sure looks better than the stock one.

Well, I’ll leave the look for you guys to decide because everyone has different styles and tastes. Let’s talk about performance for a bit. The big question is this, “Does the windscreen increase the bike’s performance?” My answer is “Yes, if you pick up the double bubble one.”

Double bubble describes the shape of the windscreen. It provides the bike with a higher center. It allows you to tuck your helmet underneath it to which in turns gives you better wind flow at a high rate of speed.

So, does it really help? Or is it just for show? After I put it on my bike, I realized that I don’t have to put my head down like before to get away from wind drag. When I tuck underneath it, I don’t feel any wind drag my helmet like on the stock windscreen.

Who I would recommend this for: Aerodynamic fiends!

Who I would recommend against: Those nit-picky about quality products. It doesn’t line up quite like stock. Water leaks into your bike should it rain.

Summary: Up to you!

Alright …. peace!

If you like this post then please consider subscribing to our full feed RSS or receive new posts by Email.

ASV Lever Review

2007 Suzuki Gsxr1000

Staff Bikes

asv

goody

gsxr1000

ipm

levers

Hi everyone. Today I’ll be talking about the AVS unbreakable levers shipped to us from ASV Levers USA. The ones that I have are the gold color ones. AVS offers three different colors: gold, black and silver.

I have funny thing to ask you guys. How many aftermarket levers in sliver color have you ever seen on bikes? Hahaha, you know what I’m saying? It’s rare right? Who needs stock colored levers when they buy aftermarket ones, right? Plus, these go with the whole color scheme of my Gixxer.

Okay back to the ASV levers. After I put them on, I loved them right away. The wide range of adjustability is amazing. They actually offer around 20 clicks of adjustable positions. Each click is like 1mm of difference. It’s kinda cool to me because I’m a very picky person. I like things just right. When I had CRG’s or Vortex levers on my previous bikes, I felt like the number 3 position was too close, and the number 4 position was is a bit too far.

The ASV pair have definitely taken care of that. They levers also fold back. That means if you drop your bike it’s not going to break. The AVS company even offers you a 5 year warranty. If you break it they will send new one to you. Great levers in the market. I love them.

Who I would recommend these for: Those looking for new adjustable levers with style.

Who I would advise against: Those who are picky with the choice of colors.

Sum: Dude, you break it, you get new one! GooDy is in the house again! Today I am going to show you a new mod on my Gixxer1000 K7. When I got into the office, I received a package from Lex Racing. I opened the box and was confused. I thought, “what the heck is this?” Looks like a mouse!

Let’s rewind a little bit. A couple weeks ago, I had a conversation with the staff at Lex Racing while Alex was getting his tires changed at Desmoto. They asked me if I forgot to put my mirrors back on after I went to the track and I said no. I told them I just don’t use side mirrors because firstly it is hard to split lanes in city, and secondly most of them only show my elbows or my butt. And of course, thirdly they look like crap!

Then they told me about a new kind of side mirrors that they can order for me. Now here we are! Pig Spotters in the IPM office right now.

At first, I doubted That these things will even work. But I went ahead and installed them in the stock position anyways. I found out I couldn’t see anything! So I moved it around to see where it could work. I ended up mounting them sideways on the edges of the upper fairing like you see in the photo.

I took bike out in the city right away to see how they work. And you know what? They are amazing!

I love the fish eye lens because I can see wide angles. But, objects appear too small and fat. But for me, they really show exactly where I want to see: blind spots, where the pigs hide.

However, I think they are really made for looks. Cops can’t give you ticket for no mirrors is just a plus. It also has L.E.D. lights on the side so you can wire them to your turn signals or running lights.

Who these are For: Those who want a different more streamlined look.

Who I would advise Against: Those who rely heavily on their mirrors.

Summary: It will save you from getting a ticket and using them is better than seeing nothing!

If you like this post then please consider subscribing to our full feed RSS or receive new posts by Email.

Yoshimura TRC Stainless/Carbon Slip-On

2007 Suzuki Gsxr1000

Staff Bikes

Yoshimura TRC Stainless Carbon Slip-On

Made famous by 6-time AMA Superbike Champion, Mat Mladin, the TRC is a race proven exhaust that falls second to none, featuring a Tri-oval design, trick cone-shaped end cap, and an easily removable low-volume insert. As you can tell from the earlier article about my crash, I was in need of new fairings. So instead of calling the stealership, I decided to shop online on eBay and the local online classifieds, Craigslist.

And again, as always, the internet saved my life. I gave myself about a week after I crashed to shop around. Luckily, I found a good deal from a local rider. Actually, it wasn’t really a good deal, but the guy was nice and he let me talk the price down to $740. The guy posted at $1000 for the full set of fairings. Then I called him and asked if he could lower it a bit for a fellow rider down on his luck.

He suddenly said $800 right away, and I was so surprised! Then an hour later, he called me back and said he couldn’t find the fender, which by the way is about $70 brand new. At this point, I didn’t want it anymore considering it’s a 2 hour drive from my place to his. I guess he sensed my hesitation because he offered me $750 + a full tank of gas so I took it.

He must have really needed the money. So back to the fairings — it’s a blue scheme from the same model Gsxr1000. Since I currently have the yellow color scheme, I decided to mix it up a bit. I even painted my own front fender and rear hugger yellow to match. Check out the pictures, and give me your feedback guys. Peace!

If you like this post then please consider subscribing to our full feed RSS or receive new posts by Email.

New Rearsets on my Gixxer

2007 Suzuki Gsxr1000

Staff Bikes

2007 suzuki

gsxr1000

rearsets

Hey, how’s it going everybody? You all remember from my last post that I crashed my Gixxer. I am still bruised and sore, but it’s my ego that really bothering me. Anyways, you guys also saw in the pictures that I broke my rearsets. I decided to get aftermaket ones instead of purchasing the expensive stock ones.

So, I was actually looking on eBay for stock replacements when I came across this company called MOTH Racing. They sell CNC machined sportbike products. Their stuff is mostly custom parts for motorcycles, such as rearsets, levers, clip-ons, and suspension adjusters.

I gave them a call and it turns out they are located in Thailand. They sent me a set of rearsets to install and review. I got the gold ones with SATO-style heelplates and Gilles-style footpegs. You can see them in the pictures below.

<imgwidth="590" height="443" src="http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l227/Archeraph/FILE0027-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">

Like their expensive counterparts, MOTH Racing rearsets are fully adjustable to suit my style of riding. I definitely like the feel of them better than the stock ones. They gave me better positioning options for my feet. I can adjust them to be higher so I can lean and hang my body further while I’m in a sharp turn. Thanks MOTH Racing for a great product. Be sure to visit their eBay store! They’re user name is Club517Superbike. I am so mad right now, but I want to tell you guys this story so maybe some of you could learn from my mistake. Here’s a picture of the damage before I go on:

It was a really stupid crash. Totally avoidable if I had just been paying better attention to my surroundings. So, I backed into a parking space I had found on the street near my house. Unfortunately, the car that had parked there before me leaked oil onto ground. Since it was 9:30pm, I didn’t see my rear tire sitting in the pool of oil.

After I grabbed a bite to eat, I went back to my bike, put my gear on and fired her up to go. When I took off, my bike slid down to the left. As I went down, my first instinct was to lean the opposite way to try and bring her back up. This forced my wrist to twist the throttle, causing my bike to powerslide into a high side crash. It was only at 10mph, but it cost me dearly. Damn oil!

Good thing I had on my full gear, so there wasn’t too much damage to the goods! Here’s a couple more pictures of my baby after the crash (don’t worry, I’ll spare you the pictures of my damaged goods). So to wrap it up… watch where you park, and please, gear up every time you ride. Stay tuned — I’ll be back as soon as I get the Gixxer patched up. On the bright side, now I have an excuse to spend money on my baby!

The mirrors are gone too. It’s an honor to join the IPM team — thanks to all the staff members for the warm welcome. So.. let me introduce myself a little bit. By day, I’m an importer; by night, I’m a street rider. I have brand new 2007 Suzuki Gsxr1000 that is all stock (for now) and below is a picture of my baby in the garage. I have a lot of modification ideas in my head right now and I’ll be more than happy to share them with you as they’re implemented.

I’ve ridden most of the new liters bikes but I didn’t feel comfortable on most of them. From my experience, the 2007 Kawasaki Zx10r gives a lot of top end but is heavy and ugly; the 2007 Honda Cbr1000rr gives the strongest midrange but is a bit dated, and the 2007 Yamaha R1 gives the least power and bring nothing new to the table. The Gixxer was the obvious choice.

Now, let’s talk about the Gsxr1000 K7. A lot of people say it’s the best bike in the liter class, but for me nothing is the best. Every bike has the GOOD, BAD and UGLY of its own. After taking in the 200 miles that I’ve put on her, I’ve realized that the Gsxr1000 really offers strong output at any rpm. The Gsxr1000K7 may only be a stock 1000cc bike, but it’s able to make 9 seconds in 1/4 mile track. Until this bike, these feats were unheard of in the sportbike world. Unfortunately, it’s also a really heavy bike due to the big ugly twin exhaust system. In addition, it’s the most heavy bike in the liter class.

Never fear though, I plan to reduce the weight of the bike as my first modification by installing an aftermarket exhaust system. Well, that’s it for now, thanks for reading. Next time, I’ll report back with my first mod!

~GooDy

If you like this post then please consider subscribing to our full feed RSS or receive new posts by Email.
