The good folks at Heli Modified sent us a pair of their beautiful TracStar clip-ons. We decided to install them onto our Triumph Daytona 675 Project Bike. Check out the video for the comparison to stock and for the installation process. Stay tuned for our test video when we take the 675 to the track!

Visit www.HeliBars.com for more of their precision made products.

Thanks again Heli Modified!

The following was taken directly from their site.

HeliBars handlebars give you a better, more comfortable riding position so you can tack on the miles and leave pain in the dust. And whether you’re standing at a stop light in town or flying down a long lonesome desert highway, precision-built HeliBars transform and improve your bike’s handling and performance. More than just drop-dead gorgeous, HeliBars meticulous hand-crafted designs are the pinnacle of style and performance. When it comes to safety, precision engineered HeliBars improve your control and reduce fatigue for safer riding and long-distance touring.

TracStar will fit on

- 2006/08 Suzuki GSXR600 / 750
- 2006/08 Triumph 675 Daytona
- 2005/06 Honda CBR600RR
- 2007/08 Honda CBR600RR
- 1999/07 Suzuki Hayabusa
- 2008 Suzuki Hayabusa
- 2005/08 BMW K1200S
- 2007/08 Ducati 1098

An innovative new design with improved street comfort.

Heli Modified believes you should have your cake and eat it too because, “Performance shouldn’t be painful”

Our design guru, Harry Eddy, has once again applied his 360° Design approach to produce the first in a new line of one piece alloy HeliBars.

CNC carved from a single 6061 extruded aluminum billet, the new TracStar clip-ons allow optimal placement of controls in a cramped environment. Because there are no handlebar tube mounting clamps attached to the fork tube clamps, the master cylinders and switch gear can be mounted closer to the top triple clamp. This single feature optimizes bar angles, height and width changes.

-42.5 mm (1.670″) taller at the damper end
-10 mm (3/8″) taller at the fork tube
-25 mm 1″ wider at 27 inches
-One piece seamless design
-As always, pre-drilled for control housings. A true direct replacement design.
-Retains factory damper weights
-Billet reservoir mount included
-Retains all stock cables and hydraulic lines

Check out what the good folks at Soupy’s Performance sent us. It’s a fully adjustable lowering link for the Triumph Street Triple or Daytona 675.

This is a threaded style lowering link that does NOT require going through the re-installation process again and again to make adjustments. With this lowering link, you simply make a few turns of the hex body to adjust the height. Other lowering links only allow you to adjust to fixed heights at -1″, -2″, -3″, or -4″. With the Soupy’s Performance lowering link, you can achieve the exact height desired, anywhere in between and up to -4″!

Check them out at www.soupysperformance.com

This was originally supposed to go onto the Street Triple, but there was an incident. Read about it here.

Stay tuned for the installation video onto the Daytona 675 Project Bike.

Attaches to the tank with seven 0.5″ x 0.5″ double sided tape squares. Not much of a “padding” but it does prevent tank scratches. It is actually very durable, as I tried to mark it with my belt and keys and it’s still as good as new! Can’t wait to install it but have to wait until the bike gets painted first.

The awesome guys at MaxMoto.com, the U.S. distributer of Remus exhaust systems, hooked us up with a full titanium system for our 675 project! Thanks Knut and Frank!
Here is a photo of the titanium headers next to the stock ones. What a difference in weight!

Here is another shot from another angle:

After removing the stock headers, we had to screw the sensor into the new headers:

Here is a shot of the exhaust can:

Here is a shot of the midpipe (beautiful!):

We took some pictures after the system was installed. Here is a shot of the new header:

A rear side shot:

It sticks out quite a bit further than the stock can. Function over form I guess!

Ah yes, my thousand dollar forks… for #$^%ing OEM forks no less….Grrrr….The Beringer brakes look awesome though. They don’t fit but Philippe from Beringer offered to help in anyway possible, and he did! The stealership I ordered these from were no help at all! The owner is this monotonous man who did not want to take responsibility for anything at all. I merely called and told him perhaps the part was wrong and that if I could exchange them for maybe Brembos. He goes into this entire diatribe about how they don’t sell European bikes there, and that they wouldn’t know what to do.

When I tried to tell him that all I wanted was some help, he told me that I should be glad that I was even allowed to purchase parts there using a card. What?!? Let’s just say, I now take my business elsewhere.

The culprits:

Philippe was awesome and explained that all aftermarket calipers need spacers! Duh! So easy. Then he sent me three sets of different spacers along with two sets of longer bolts. At no charge! What a gentleman and businessman!

I am a Beringer customer for life, thanks to you Philippe! Brembo-what?

We also threw on part of the power up kit from Driven. The black rear sprocket with an extra tooth looks great against the chrome wheel.

Installation was quick and easy. Two screws, one on top, and one on the bottom, and the OEM shock slid right out. Seeing as how the swingarm and frame were sitting on the side, it was a difficult job. However, if someone were to do this swap on a complete and upright Daytona, they would need someone to hold up the subframe while a partner does the swap.

Here are a couple of photos of the Ohlins unit installed:

This month, a set of Carrozzeria V-Star Forged Aluminum Wheels arrived. I was ecstatic as I tore open the box. Carrozzeria is a relatively new company, but they produce decent quality rims at a reasonable price. Imagine my dismay when I opened the box and found that they sent me the wrong color.

First, let’s back up a bit. Ordering rims for the 675 was a pain in of its self. For some reason, aftermarket companies don’t make rims specifically for the Daytona. Excuse me? *exasperated expression* Um, 2006 Bike of the Year here… Anyways, the only choices I had after calling every wheel manufacturer were the $3,000+ BST Carbon rims or the aluminum Carrozzerias that they Frankensteined from old Kawasaki ZRX1200s. Well, not being a Trump or a Hilton, I naturally went with the latter.

Back to my story: I remember specifically writing down that I wanted silver rims, but what I saw when I expectantly peered into the box was a pair of chrome ones! I’m building a track bike, for Pete’s sake, not a chopper. Not a show bike. Not even a street bike that I can pass off a pair of bling dubs as intentional.

My first call was to the dealership that placed the order. They suggested I go to Carrozzeria directly – nice diversion. Typical “stealership” maneuver. Fine. So I call Carrozzeria, and they tell me that I could send the wheels back and pay an additional $150.00 on top of the shipping fee to have the rims powder-coated to the color I originally ordered. Yeah…right…

So, I put that on the back burner and started to work on the other parts. I have got to say though, seeing them everyday in the workshop makes me want to keep them. What is it about chrome anyways? It’s really shiny and smooth. I guess Neanderthals like me are attracted to shiny things… Stay tuned!

“It’s here…We’ll build it”

Alex and Tony have insanely embarked on a project to track a wrecked Daytona 675. We follow them through the wallet-eating, bank account draining process.

“This is going to be a lot of work.” Truer words have never been spoken. However, we’ve managed to get all the simple things done this month, such as checking for and removing all damaged parts. We ended up with a strong frame, engine, and swingarm. “Looks pretty clean and simple.” Tony just laughed.

JOB ONE

Locating parts.

We decided to go as much aftermarket as possible with this project. OEM parts for this model are as scarce as dodos. However, we made one sweep of FeeBay and the local classifieds for OEM parts first. We managed to secure headers, a rear brake caliper, a side stand, kill switches, a seat, and an airbox with throttle bodies.

Our next goal was to get it up on stands so we could properly work on the 675. To do so, we needed front forks or at least front triples. 675 forks were made in 41mm measurements, so there were not a lot of aftermarket alternatives. A call to our local supplier yielded no direct replacements. Kyle Racing makes direct supersport drop in cartridges, but having no OEM forks made that option useless.

After much head scratching, we came up with four options. One, we wait for a pair of OEMs to show up for sale online. Two, we buckle down and order OEMs from the factory (Heck NO! –Editor). Three, we purchase Marzocchi 43mm forks and fabricate a custom set of triple trees. Or four, we try to bolt 2007 Honda Cbr600rr or Kawasaki Zx6r 41mm forks onto our 675.

Whichever option we go with, we have a feeling it is going to be expensive! Stay tuned and come back in thirty days to see how miserable we have become!
