“No no no! Tom Cruise is on a Ducati”

Irene

Hi guys, so you all might have heard that the Hypermotard used in Tom Cruise’s new movie is not a Ducati at all but an Aprilai SXV550. Take a close look at the shot below.

Notice anything odd? Take a look at the swingarm and especially the engine. Now take a look at the Aprilia SXV550 below.

So, what’s the deal? Ducati states that the Aprilia/Ducati hybrid seen being ridden by Tom Cruise was only used in a promotional video made by ESPN. It was not used at all in the film, and every bike in that is a genuine Ducati Hypermotard. See picture below.

The film better be good after all this, but in the back of my mind, I doubt it. I’ll be very disappointed if they dub over the sound of the v-twin as Hollywood tends to do.

Stay tuned for more updates. Be sure to check out Ducatist for more Ducati fun.

Aprilia RSV4 Takes on the Tablecloth

    Jon

Hey guys, Jon here again. Remember the tablecloth trick that the BMW S1000RR did? Well, not to be outdone, the folks over at Aprilia came out with their own video. Both European manufacturers released brand new liter bikes in the same year and have been doing battle both on the sales floor and the race track ever since. Check out Aprilia’s video.

So how does Aprilia benefit from this video? Satire, duh. BMW has proven that it can build a proper sportbike with its 193-horsepower S1000RR. The Bavarian company has also shown its marketing chops, most memorably with the viral tablecloth video we featured a few months back.

But it’s Aprilia that has the greater racing experience, and that’s coming forth this season in competition. Presently, the Italian marque is leading the Superbike manufacturer’s championship with its RSV4 while BMW is second to last. So who has the last laugh?

    Stay tuned for more updates.

What’s cool is the semi auto lock zippers in the lower leg to retain strength and closure in the event of a crash. There is also a lycra inset panel attached to the back of the liner that ensures the liner stretch works in unison with the external accordion to avoid pressure and pulling in the cockpit.

        Aprilia RS125 & RS50 Biaggi Replicas

        Paul

Hi guys, Paul here. Aprilia has announced that Max Biaggi’s World Superbike colors are to be offered on a trio of lower capacity bikes including the RS50, RS125 and the SR50 scooter. Check them out.

The Aprilia Alitalia WSB Racing Team livery has colored a number of successes for Biaggi in 2010 and now teen wannabes can mimic the Italian’s style. I’m not a wannabe but I sure like the red, green, and white design of these bikes. To all you haters out there, you guys need to get Lasik from USAEyes or something.

Speaking of which, for those of you who wear contacts or glasses, be sure to check out USAEyes.org to get your eyes fixed. Your riding will improve tenfold!

Anyways, the 200bhp RSV4 Biaggi replica announced in early May was the first to bring the distinctive livery from the racetrack to the street, and these three new models will broaden the appeal. I wish I could have all three! Or four for that matter!

The RS50 and RS125 lightweight two-strokes are both road going ‘race-replicas’. Not here in the states folks. I don’t think we will even get these.

        Stay tuned for more updates.

Kawasaki Reveals Teaser of New ZX-10R

What’s up people? This post was brought to you by the good folks over at the Stahl Eye Center, who want to warn you about dry eyes. This is especially important to us riders as any sort of irritation and obstruction could translate to certain doom.

Anyways, the following video of the next Kawasaki ZX-10R has just been released by the Japanese firm as it attempts to get both the road and racing bikes on top of the 1000cc class again. Check it out.

The clip shows a racing version of the bike Kawasaki is hoping is good enough to win the World Superbike championship for the first time since Scott Russell took the title in 1993. Since then the Kawasaki racing effort has been an almost complete failure as firstly the ZX-7RR was too old and a 750cc fighting against bigger capacity bikes and the ZX-10R seemed unsuited to racing.

Kawasaki has taken development of the new ZX-10R so seriously that it took the decision to hold back on bringing the bike to market for an extra year to make sure it was as good as it possible could be. I seriously doubt that was the reason, but it was maybe part of the reason. The main reason is always money.

Well, that’s it for this time. Be sure to check out the Stahl Eye Center if you are one of the 20 million people who suffer from dry eyes. Especially if you are thinking of getting Lasik to improve your vision, because the procedure can be complicated by dry eyes.

Be sure to check out Ninja Boards for more Kawasaki fun! Stay tuned.
