Ducati 848 Mess

written by Alex -- April 30th, 2010

What’s up guys? I’ve got some exciting news. We were able to secure an 848 to replace the one some imbecile so foolishly lost (or stole). It was difficult testing Japanese middleweights without having the stick by which all of them were measured by.

However, there’s always a catch to good news these days. The previous owner did a horrible job of modifying and maintaining this Italian stallion. Check it out.

So after removing all the cheap ABS plastics, I saw that the engine was leaking and that someone had tried in vain to repair it by covering the whole damn thing with some sort of sealant. Not good.

Now we have to scrape off the dried goop, and check to make sure there is no additional damage before sealing it back up properly.

Be sure to check out Ducatist for more Ducati fun, and stay tuned for more updates!

Ducati Only Motorcycle at Beijing Show

written by Tony Tone -- April 29th, 2010

Tony Tone

What’s up people? Ducati is the only motorcycle firm to have been given space at the Beijing exhibition, adding to the manufacturer’s interest in the Chinese market. Go Big Red!

Is that a commie hat she’s wearing? Anyways, the Beijing automotive show is a traditionally car-dedicated show, but this year, they decided to give Ducati space at the exhibition. It’s known as Asia’s number one automotive event so Ducati showed their entire 2010 range. The Monster 696, Hypermotard 796, Streetfighter and new Mutlistrada 1200 were all in attendance.

An estimated 700,000 visitors attended the event. You can’t get numbers like that here. Some rich Chinese dude bought a 1198 S ‘Corse’, a Streetfighter and a new Multistrada 1200. Lucky bastard.

Ducati is increasingly building a sales network in China since the company’s first store in Shanghai was opened along with the Ducati Asia-Pacific sales office.

Be sure to check out Ducatist for more information. Stay tuned for more updates.

Dream Machines

Hi guys, Paul here. The 20th Annual Pacific Coast Dream Machines air and auto show, a charity event benefiting the Coastside Adult Day Health Center, was Sunday, April 25. It featured many rare aircraft and collectible cars and trucks. Event attendees were able to purchase rides on several airplanes, helicopters, and even a monster truck.

Most of the automotive exhibits displayed customized or restored cars, including Chevrolet Corvettes, Ford Mustangs, and Lamborghini’s. Ford’s Model A and Model T cars showed up in force as well as, a Horseless Carriage, a fully custom low rider, an Amphicar, and even a M551 Sheridan Deathstalker tank.

Several historic aircraft were at the show including a tour-able WWII era B-25 bomber, several P-51 Mustang’s, a USSR Yak-9. Several training aircraft were on display including, a “Texan” T-6, a T-28, and a T-38 jet trainer.

Motorcycles were outnumbered in the display by the cars and airplanes, but they were not absent. Ack Attack, the modified Suzuki Hayabusa streamline motorcycle holding the land speed record of 360.913 MPH set in 2008 at the Bonneville Salt Flats was proudly displayed. A few steps away was the world’s fastest Buell Blast at 138.838 MPH ridden and built by Terry Parsley from JT&S Performance.

Nearby was the BuddFab, the world’s fastest 125cc streamliner built from a 2002 Aprilia RS50. Visitors could also get their picture taken next to a KISS Tribute motorcycle custom built from a 1996 Harley.

The show did not end there, more entertainment was provided by a Freestyle Motocross team featuring Jeff Griffin, and 6’5” tall Nick Dunn, among other riders. This team wowed, and dazzled the crowds pulling off no handed double back flips, no-footed can-cans, cordovas, and a Captain Morgan.

Another exciting event held was a unimotorcyclists race, where one-wheeled motorcycles were drag-raced across the field. Watching the riders control their contraptions by hanging on behind the wheel was a sight best cherished in person.

Free motorcycle parking, warm weather, beautiful clear skies, and thrilling roads on the route in, enticed many motorcycle owners to ride their dreamy machines to the show. While the owners were out enjoying the shows displays, I snapped a few photographs around the motorcycle parking area. Shout out in the comments section if you spot your ride.

Ducati Monster Logos

written by Irene -- April 27th, 2010

Irene

Hi guys, looks like there’s no stopping Ducati these days. Along with the new Ducati Monster 796 comes a new variation on the Monster Art theme.

As you may recall, last year’s art project offered the ability to quickly and cheaply change the color of your Monster with clip-on tanks, tail-pieces, fenders and bikini fairings. Well, this year’s Logomania adds classic color schemes and logos to the mix.

Check out the video.

So, to sum up, there’s ten new color schemes:

“Giallo Ducati” Ducati Yellow,
“Lilla Glamour” Lilac,
“Arancione Scrambler” Ducati Scrambler Orange,
“Ducati Corse” Inspired by the new Ducati Corse logo,
“Imola 72″ In honor of the Imola 200 winning 750SS,
“Darmah” Modeled after the legendary black and gold striping of the late seventies,
“Isle of Mann 79″ A tribute to Ducati’s 1978 Senior TT Win,
“Pantah” Ducati’s iconic logo from the eighties,
“Mach 1″ A vibrant red in the spirit of the 1960′s, and
“Sport 100″ A historic blue from Ducati’s of the past.

Be sure to check out Ducatist for more information. Stay tuned.

World’s Fastest Electric Motorcycle

written by Jon -- April 26th, 2010

Jon

What’s up guys? Jon here again. Looks like US electric motorcycle manufacturer ZEV has laid claim to building the fastest battery-powered motorcycle on the planet – the ZEV7000. And they are issuing you all a challenge.

The company is keen to promote the fact, challenging rival electric motorcycle manufacturers saying: “We tell them to bring their street legal production bike and to bring their betting money. There can be only one ‘fastest’ street legal production electric motor scooter or bike in the world.”

So what sort of speeds will this baby achieve? They claim in excess of 70mph. HUH?

Okay, but check it out. The bike’s top speed is a bit of a disappointment, yes, but just check the torque figure: 135ft-lbs. To put that into perspective a 2010 YZF-R1 produces 49-ft-lbs LESS.

The ZEV7000 has a range of around between 65 miles between charges, which takes 25 minutes for 75 percent, or around 2 hours for a full charge. It will cost $7,237 USD.

So, who’s taking up their challenge? Stay tuned for more updates.
