Buell Barracuda 2

Paul

Hi guys, Paul here. Trolling around Facebook, I found the photo below.

Buell_Barracuda

The Buell Barracuda 2 was intended to replace the Buell 1125R for the 2011 model year. Dropping the weight to 355lbs (161kg) dry would have made it about 22lbs lighter than the Ducati 1198, making up for the power deficit.

Chain drive, Showa BPF forks and forward-facing, side-mounted radiators that draw air through the front fairing opening before exhausting it through slats on the sides, eliminating the awkward radiator cowls and running more efficiently.

Inside the 1125cc Rotax v-twin bore is down, stroke is up, valves are titanium and the compression ratio is increased to 12.8:1 resulting in identical peak torque delivered in a flatter curve.

Sadly, Cycle World, which grabbed an exclusive last ride, didn’t publish any other photos aside from the two above.

Be sure to check out Buell Boards for more information.

Phoenix Dump Truck Motorcycle Deaths

What’s up people? I’d like to take a moment to send a prayer to the friends and families of the motorcyclists killed in Arizona by a truck driver.

500x_dump_truck_motorcycle_crash

The accident took place near 27th and Carefree Highway in Phoenix. Multiple sources have confirmed earlier reports of a major accident involving multiple bikes in the area. According to the employees of a Walgreens located near the site of the accident, the truck driver plowed through at least nine motorcycle riders who were parked at the intersection waiting for the light. The truck then caught on fire with motorcycles trapped underneath it.

According to one Walgreens employee, the truck driver admitted to bystanders that he was “fishing for papers” when the accident occured. Lifeflight was sent to the scene and the casualty count is unclear, but at least three people and possibly five are dead with many others injured.

An new Jalopnik article has now claimed that if lane splitting (yes, how we love that topic here at IPM) were legal in the state of Arizona, then the deaths and injuries of the riders could have been prevented altogether.

Either way, it is never a good day when deaths and injuries occur. Our prayers go out to them.

CHP Scares Motorcyclist

Irene

Hey guys, I was browsing around on YouTube and came across the following video. Check it out.

As you saw, the ZX6R rider is surprised by the parked CHP as he comes around a corner, attempts to brake and lowsides.

Now, I have mixed feelings about this. I know some of you may immediately say that it’s the CHP’s fault. I mean they are notorious, especially nowadays, to give as many tickets as possible. Hey, the state needs money right?

But then, there is the flip side. If the rider was riding within his abilities as well as the speed limit, then maybe the accident would not have happened.

The video was shot from far away so it is difficult to judge exactly how fast the rider was going, but it didn’t look that fast.

So, I guess both sides have something to think about. The CHP about their reputation as vengeful anti-motorcycle fanatics, and riders: Hey, if you’re not doing anything wrong, why should you be afraid of the cops? And cops, if the riders aren’t doing anything wrong, leave them alone!

Although in this case, I am sure every law enforcement agency will side with the CHP. After all, they didn’t do anything. They were just parked there (with the engine running). Right…?

Dark Knight Replica Motorcycle Suit

Jon

Yes guys, it is exactly what it looks like. Universal Designs Ltd. has created a fully functional, Batman motorcycle suit. This hardcore leather suit is probably as close as we fanboys can get to the one from the Dark Knight.

tdkFront-560x708

The suit is designed in a segmented armor fashion, allowing for great ease of movement. The body armor comes with dense leather and leather-like materials, and even incorporates Kevlar in the suit. All theses bits are not exactly Batman quality materials so don’t expect to be Wu Shu-ing bad guys in it.

The bladed fins found on Batman’s sleeves are the same on the replica suit. Practical, no. Badass, definitely. Awesome, for sure!

So where can we get a suit? Well sorry to say, the suit has been sold out, but Batman boots are still available. Even the gloves are out of stock. If you can find a suit on eBay, more power to you, but Universal Designs Ltd. is done with this leather tribute to the Caped Crusader.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Risk Racing Palm Protectors Review

written by Alex -- March 27th, 2010

Alex

Hey, what’s going on guys? Welcome to another session of Essential Stuff. Today, the good folks over at Risk Racing sent us a couple pairs of their new Palm Protectors to review. Check it out!

Like I mentioned in the video, the Palm Protectors are mainly for motocross and trail riders who develop more blisters than us street riders. Believe it or not, the rough terrain can tear up the hands of even the strongest riders.

The Palm Protectors are a very thin, protective layer offering full coverage protection of the palm as well as the saddle area between the index finger and thumb. They also aid in reducing the dreaded “Arm Pump” by absorbing vibration transferred through the handlebars.

Worn under the gloves, I could hardly even notice the ultra thin Palm Protectors, but I did recognize the vibration reduction and much needed protection against blisters. Motocross racers, trail riders, and road racers alike can benefit from the Palm Protectors.

At $7.99 a pair via Risk Racing, you really can’t argue. Would you rather sit out rides till your palms heal? Or spend a bit of pocket change for some nifty protectors and push harder and further than your riding buddies? “Nuff said, right?

Stay tuned for more updates folks!
