2008 Honda Cbr1000rr Overview

OK, so I know some of you are reading this and asking yourselves why are we 6 months late on this article. I can’t really tell you, except to say that this is the prequel article, and there will be more to come– as soon as Honda puts one in the IPM garage.

Everything I’ve read about this bike has made me want one. For a good stretch of years, Honda has arguably had the premier bike in MotoGP; certainly in the year that Hayden won, and the few years leading up to it. So when I started to read about the CBR600RR being outfitted with so much GP technology in 2007, I knew it wasn’t long till that technology would be incorporated into the big brother liter bike. Honda claims however, that while being a beast of extraordinary power, it still maintains the rideability “refined for the street.” And word on the street is, that’s what’s up! So who wouldn’t want this bike?  Check out these tasty flavors:

Bad Day!!

Hey guys and girls, bad news. Today I went riding around the city with my Gsxr1000 K7, and you’ll never guess what happened. I went down! I am so mad right now, but I want to tell you guys this story so maybe some of you could learn from my mistake. Here’s a picture of the damage before I go on:

It was a really stupid crash. Totally avoidable if I had just been paying better attention to my surroundings. So, I backed into a parking space I had found on the street near my house. Unfortunately, the car that had parked there before me leaked oil onto ground. Since it was 9:30pm, I didn’t see my rear tire sitting in the pool of oil.

After I grabbed a bite to eat, I went back to my bike, put my gear on and fired her up to go. When I took off, my bike slid down to the left. As I went down, my first instinct was to lean the opposite way to try and bring her back up. This forced my wrist to twist the throttle, causing my bike to powerslide into a high side crash. It was only at 10mph, but it cost me dearly. Damn oil!

Good thing I had on my full gear, so there wasn’t too much damage to the goods! Here’s a couple more pictures of my baby after the crash (don’t worry, I’ll spare you the pictures of my damaged goods). So to wrap it up… watch where you park, and please, gear up every time you ride. Stay tuned — I’ll be back as soon as I get the Gixxer patched up. On the bright side, now I have an excuse to spend money on my baby!

The Square Root of Three

Justin

In the spirit of the DVD release today of Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, I’d like to share one of my favorite parts from the movie. Check it out if you haven’t watched it yet, because it was hilarious!

“The Square Root of Three”

I’m sure that I will always be
A lonely number like root three

The three is all that’s good and right,
Why must my three keep out of sight?
Beneath the vicious square root sign,
I wish instead I were a nine

Check out 28 seconds into this clip

Vortex Racing Lowering Link

Drops

From the beginning, I was having a really tough time touching even the toe of one foot on The 2007 R6. This is due to the fact that the seat height, 33.5 inches from the ground, is taller when compared to the 2005 version which was 32.5 inches. Even though its only an inch taller, when your 5′4″, like me, it’s makes a big difference especially with the new wider seat.

So here it is guys. The very first modification on my 2007 Red Yamaha R6. Vortex Racing was kind enough to send a lowering link for my baby. I’m putting a lowering link on it because of my tiny stature. Yes, I know all about how messing with the geometry of the bike will ruin it’s handling and all, but here is my reasoning: I will only be able to ride to the best of my ability when I am comfortable on the bike. And having it too high for me, is not comfortable!

The bike was originally about five and a half inches above the ground, as shown in the picture below.

Battery Tender Junior

My Speed Triple has been sitting in the garage for a few months and I foolishly did not hook up the battery to a tender. As you all know, when a battery sits without in a bike without regular use, the juice starts to seep away slowly. Then the battery becomes useless. So, I picked up the Battery Tender Junior for future use. They come in 12 volt and 6 volt versions along with Battery Tender’s other products. I chose the 12 volt version.

The Battery Tender Junior is much more than a trickle charger. It has a brain. I lets you know exactly when it’s done charging and when it’s not charging, all with indicator lights. It’s also lightweight, compact, and fully automatic. It’s very easy to use, especially in small spaces. It will keep your battery fully charged so that it is ready to go when you are!

According to their website, the Battery Tender Junior is:

* Perfect for all lead-acid, flooded or sealed maintenance free batteries (AGM and gel cell).
* Complete 4-step charging program (Initialization, Bulk Charge, Absorption Mode, Float Mode).
* Automatically switches to float / maintenance voltage after fully charging the battery.
* If the battery voltage drops too far under load, full charger output power resumes.
* Solid state two color LED indicates stage of charger.
* Spark proof.
* Reverse polarity protected.
* 12′ output cord.
* 5 year warranty

I am very happy with the Battery Tender Junior. If you need to charge more than one battery you can always go for the more heavy duty Battery Tender Plus, Power Tender Plus, or the 4 Bank Charger. But at $39.95 retail for the Junior, it’s quite the bargain!
